I’m the Mayor of London.
I’ve come to New York purely on business. The usual boring meetings with other politicians.
I don’t expect my time here to be exciting in the slightest.
But who’s that woman I met this morning? No, girl. That would be a more accurate term for her.
She’s only twenty-one years old. A college student. Someone who shouldn’t get mixed up with a guy like me.
But I can’t get her out of my mind. Every single time I close my eyes, I see her face.
How can someone I just met do this to me? That’s the kind of stuff that happens in movies. Not real life.
I know this will be a dangerous risk for me, but I can’t help it. I want her. I need her.
And whatever it may do to my career, I won’t stop until I have her.
Mr. Prescott is a standalone New Adult Romance novel told entirely from the point of view of the male lead.
Hi, thanks for having me.
What made me pick the genre and writing style for my debut novel, “Mr. Prescott.”
Hmm. Good question. Upon seeing my name, Carlos Dash, you might wonder why a man is writing a New Adult Romance novel. After all, it’s a genre where most of the writers are women, and most of the readers are women. But here’s the thing, Carlos Dash is a pen name for a writing duo consisting of one woman, and one man. We write our stories together. And our favorite kinds of stories are love stories… especially ones that are naughty in all the right places.
So here we are. We’re writing a steamy love story about how a handsome politician from London comes to the United States on a business trip, and then falls in love for the first time. The concept of someone from one culture falling for someone from another culture is very intriguing to us. It creates a lot of potential for moments that are sweet, beautiful, sexy, etc. The possibilities are endless. And therein lies the fun of the romance genre. No one knows exactly how things will turn out. What kind of man is he? What kind of woman is she? Will they fall in love right away? Will they end up together? There’s so much a writer can do with that much creative space.
As for why we chose the particular writing style we did, we knew that most New Adult Romance novels are written mostly from the female point of view. So we decided to change it up. Our book is written entirely from the point of view of the male protagonist. And that was such a fun thing to explore, because he’s not just some ordinary man. In addition to being the youngest mayor in London’s history, he’s dashingly good-looking. As well as charming, arrogant, emotionally detached, and a million other things. He has so many layers to him, that we knew it would be a joy for our readers to see a novel from that genre have such a different bent to it. And as he falls in love, the readers will fall in love with both him and the female lead.
So in the end, that’s what it all comes down to: Write what you’re passionate about, and try to have as much fun as possible. The more you enjoy yourself while writing the story, the more the readers will enjoy reading it.
