We met on a Tuesday.
Became best friends, then lovers, on a Tuesday.
And everything fell apart on a Tuesday…

Charlotte Taylor has three automatic strikes in my book: 1) She hates me. She also claims that I’m a “domineering jerk with a huge, overbearing ego.” (I do have something huge. It’s not my ego, though.) 2) She takes our mandatory tutoring sessions way too seriously. 3) She’s sexy as hell…And a virgin.

At least, those were her strikes before our study sessions started lasting longer than they were supposed to. Until one innocent kiss became a hundred dirty ones, and until she became the first woman I ever fell hard for.

Our future together after graduation was supposed to be set:
Professional football for me. Law school for her.

But she left me at the end of the semester with no explanation, and then she completely disappeared from my life.

Until tonight.

We met on a Tuesday.
Became everything, then nothing, on a Tuesday.
And now it’s seven years later, on a Tuesday…

*This is a full length second chance romance, inspired by Adele’s “When We Were Young”

Book Blitz: Setting off Sparks by Jennifer Bernard

Setting Off Sparks

A Jupiter Point Novel
by Jennifer Bernard
Publication Date: June 13, 2017
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Purchase: AmazonB&N | Kobo | iBooks | Print

USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Bernard returns to the town readers are falling in love with…

In one fiery moment, Finn Abrams went from cocksure firefighter to scarred survivor. Now all he wants is to put his life together again, get back on a hotshot crew, and figure out exactly what happened to him during the Big Canyon burnover. He never expected to be knocked off his feet by a gorgeous, no-nonsense stranger to Jupiter Point—the one woman who seems completely immune to his famous charm.

Coolly practical, Lisa Peretti knows she won’t be in Jupiter Point for long. As an ER nurse in Houston, she helped a friend escape a dangerous situation. Now she’s hiding out in the little town, determined to keep a low profile. The last thing she needs is attention, especially in the form of the tabloid-starring, actress-dating, too-sexy-for-his-own-good Finn Abrams.

Still, Lisa can’t resist someone who needs her help. As long as she can keep her distance, working with the local hero as he recovers from his burns should be no problem, right?

Wrong. When danger follows Lisa to Jupiter Point, she’s startled to find Finn ready, willing, and more than able to come to her rescue. Add to that a meddling movie crew, some kindhearted locals, and her own unruly heart, and Lisa quickly loses any shot at keeping her feelings under cover.

Fire season in Jupiter Point is always smokin’ hot…but this time it’s going to be Setting Off Sparks.

Excerpt

“Finn? Are you all right?”

His eyes snapped open. Lisa Peretti stood before him, barefoot, her sandals held in one hand. Wary sympathy shone from her dark eyes.

Great. How much had she overheard? “Fine. How are you?”

Smooth. Very smooth.

“Not bad. For what it’s worth, ‘deformed’ is a little over the top. As a medical professional, I wouldn’t use that phrase.”

“So you heard all that.”

She nodded. Her glance flickered down his body, and it seemed she wanted to say something else. But she didn’t. She probably wasn’t one for empty expressions of sympathy.

“Fan-tastic. I’m trying to figure why I keep embarrassing myself in front of you and I’m coming up blank.” He grabbed the champagne bottle and took another swallow. “Drink?”

“I’m good. I don’t drink when I’m working.”

“So I’m drinking alone, then. One more embarrassing moment, in case you’re counting.” He toasted her with the bottle then set it aside. Any more and he might throw up. That would definitely put him in the Humiliation Hall of Fame for good.

She came toward the bench and sat next to him. Not right next to him, but close enough so he could inhale her scent, something light and spicy. “So, uh…I have a question for you,” she said.

“The answer is yes.”

She laughed. “Do you ever stop flirting?”

“This? This isn’t flirting. Believe me, you’ll know when I get back into flirting.” Suddenly he felt a hell of a lot better than he had a few minutes ago. In a flash, this wedding had gone from endless tedium to something more like exhilaration.

“Will there be more cheesy pick-up lines?” She clasped her hands at her throat and fluttered her eyelashes at him. “A girl can dream.”

“Speaking of dreams… Do your legs hurt from running through my dreams all night?”

She groaned. “Worst ever. You keep topping yourself. It’s a gift.”

“Yeah, kind of like that gift from your great-aunt Gertrude that you can’t return because she’d be insulted.”

“Oh, I doubt it. I’m sure that kind of thing works on most people.”

“That kind of thing?”

She smoothed out a wrinkle on her dress. The night breeze lifted the long strands of hair that had come loose. “You know, the charming thing.”

“I’ve had nearly an entire bottle of champagne, but I’m pretty sure you just called me charming.”

And I said it doesn’t work on me.”

He squinted up at the night sky. The lanterns overheard swayed, sending shadows chasing across the lawn. “No, you didn’t. You said it worked on most people.”

“But I’m not most people.”

“Now that,” he looked back at her, “is for sure. One hundred percent.”

It was a little hard to tell in the light of the lanterns, but it looked like she was blushing under his gaze. “I’m never going to go out with you, Finn.”

She sounded so serious that it took him aback. Never? “Why not?”

“I’m not interested in dating anyone. I won’t be in Jupiter Point for long. Even if I were…” She bit her lip, glancing away from him.

With all that champagne in his system, he went for the joke. “Let me guess. I’m too charming, funny, handsome and irresistible.”

“Exactly.”

My Review: 4/5 Stars

I’m going to say this first, you really need to read the first two books in this series. If you don’t you will be confused and want to know what the heck happened with Spencer and Jami. (Really bad thing is I bought the first two books and did not realize it until after I finished this book, so I need to do some catching up.)

Spencer and Olivia both have their own addiction and problems, but one thing is clear, they are meant for each other and realize that they need each other to get through their rough patch in life.

The raw emotions with Olivia almost had me in tears, the struggle was real and though I don’t know anyone personal there are people out there who does what Olivia did.  J.C. painted a picture of a troubled woman, but one who knew her short comings and was seeking help for it.

Spencer he was the type that I felt didn’t care. I mean, like I said I didn’t read the first two books, but when he was trying to make it work with Olivia, I saw the change in him. It was great and he too was seeking help for his short comings. Got to love a man who is willing to try and make himself better.

Overall great read though with the epilogue I was with the two women on did I just miss something and I read the entire book. Can’t wait to read more in the series. Well after I catch up on the first two books.

Job Hunt

Genre: M/M, Contemporary Romance

Synopsis:

You don’t greet your new boss dressed like an underage rent boy. But when Jack Horwood—ace hacker and ex-MI6 operative—opens the door to Gareth Flynn, he’s too busy to worry over details like that. And anyway, his potential new boss is his former Commanding Officer – the same guy Jack has had a crush on since he was seventeen. So he should understand, right?

When he applied for the job in Nancarrow Mining’s corporate security division, Jack had hoped for peaceful days repelling cyber attacks. Maybe a bit of corporate espionage on the side. His plans didn’t include rescuing abused children, hunting pimps, or dealing with his overly protective and hot-as-hell boss, Gareth Flynn.

Walking away is not an option. Jack never takes the easy way out. More than that, meeting Gareth raises old ghosts that Jack needs to put to rest. Rescuing kids. Taking risks. Saving the day. Jack can do all that – but deciding what to do about his attraction to Gareth isn’t the sort of cloak-and-dagger game Jack plays well. Yet Gareth, strong and smart and always on hand when needed, might be Jack’s salvation.

goodreads-badge-add-plus-fad3b68d35050280ea55d50f17c654b5

Excerpt:

Streetlights glowed through the thin mist like orange Christmas baubles strung up early, giving the quiet Richmond cul-de-sac an almost Victorian feel—if one ignored the cars lining curbs and driveways, that was.

Jack parked his Gixxer beside Gareth’s Triumph, blew warm breath on his freezing fingers, and berated himself for forgetting his gloves. He was relieved to find that Gareth was home, as if, at the very back of his mind, he’d expected the man to stand him up.

The porch light was on, and the enticing aromas of spices and roasting meat hung around the front door. It didn’t smell like anything he could identify, and as Jack leaned on the bell, he wondered about the extent of Gareth’s culinary skills.

While they’d served together, Gareth had mastered the art of one-pot cooking for a crowd, using whatever ingredients came his way. He’d had a well-deserved reputation, and their fire had always been good for tasty, filling stews and the very best curries. Jack also recalled large pans of softly scrambled eggs and even pancakes on the odd day when eggs, flour, and milk happened to coincide with time to cook breakfast.

Whatever Gareth was cooking tonight smelled homely and inviting, yet at the same time richer than the food Gareth’s mother had cooked during the week Jack had been staying with her and the boys. More… decadent, somehow, and Jack’s stomach growled in happy anticipation.

“I almost thought you weren’t coming.”

“Yeah, I can smell that you thought that.” The smile on Gareth’s face started butterflies in Jack’s gut. He managed a smile of his own, held out the wine he’d brought, and then bent to take off his motorcycle boots. “What is this, anyway?”

“Goose.”

“Goose?”

“Goose.”

Jack looked up into amber eyes and considered. Gareth didn’t seem to be pulling his leg. And technically goose was very much like duck or chicken, so why shouldn’t it be edible?

“You said you didn’t have any preferences, and I felt like it. It’s a grown-up thing, sort of.” Gareth sounded almost apologetic as he set the wine on the shoe cupboard and turned to lock the door. “You don’t have a problem with eating goose, do you?”

“I’ll tell you after dinner,” Jack said. He set his boots down and shrugged out of his jacket, hanging it beside Gareth’s. Freed from the restraints of damp leather, he wrapped his arms around Gareth’s neck. “It smells damn nice. And I missed you.”

“In that order?” Gareth wasn’t slow returning the embrace. He nuzzled Jack’s shirt collar out of the way to trace his lips along the strip of leather around Jack’s throat.

“Maybe not,” Jack allowed, tilting his head to give Gareth’s lips more space to explore. The warmth and soft light, the scents of cooking, Gareth’s hands and mouth on him, even the shivers running up his spine, all made Jack feel as if he was coming home—until a sudden alarm sent his hand flashing for a weapon.

“Dinner’s ready.” Gareth’s warm breath against Jack’s neck comforted and soothed, and he was unfazed by Jack’s grab for the knife. “Good timing.” He dropped a brief kiss on Jack’s forehead and headed toward the kitchen. “Bring the wine?”

“My timing’s crap,” Jack groused, shoving the knife back into its sheath and picking up the bottles. He’d been hungry when he arrived, but now his body didn’t want goose. It wanted Gareth. And it was anyone’s guess when he was going to get that.

My Review: 4/5 Stars

Jack has applied for a behind the desk kind of job, but he didn’t count on working with Gareth. His ex commanding officer. Jack decides he doesn’t want to take the job, but Gareth has other ideas. He goes to talk some sense into Jack and finds himself helping take down a pimp.

Bet you didn’t think I would say that, or maybe you did. They work great as a team and Gareth talks Jack in taking the job with him. Jack is not only a kick as avenger, he also has awesome IT skills, where everybody wants him.

So now Jack and Gareth are working side by side, not only at Nancarrow Mining’s, but to take down some bad guys. What are two head strong men to do when they are constantly bumping heads, and there is sexual tension that you can cut with a knife?

I enjoyed Job Hunt, there were a few parts that were slow for me, but the action and kick assery (I know it’s not a word) makes up for it. Jack is not your average veteran or IT guy. He has his own system of right and wrong. He can kick ass and take names later one minute, while hacking into the system to know everything about you and you will be none the wiser the next.

The chemistry between Jack and Gareth is explosive, though there were not enough sex scenes for me. (I know there is something wrong with me.) Though it worked for the book, so I can’t really complain. I felt it showed their strength in not jumping into bed with each other at every moment, but at the same time they supported each other, even though a serious relationship scared the hell out of both of them, Jack more so.

The side characters where amazing and I was really rooting for Nico and Daniel.

So now I have two questions. Will there be another book because that epilogue, OMG. And what is the tattoo on the side of Jack’s face. I think I missed that and I went back to see. I only know that he did it while he was drunk.

Jackie Keswick was born behind the Iron Curtain with itchy feet, a bent for rocks and a recurrent dream of stepping off a bus in the middle of nowhere to go home. She’s worked in a hospital and as the only girl with 52 men on an oil rig, spent a winter in Moscow and a summer in Iceland and finally settled in the country of her dreams with her dream team: a husband, a cat, a tandem, a hammer and a laptop.

Jackie loves stories about unexpected reunions and second chances, and men who don’t follow the rules when those rules are stupid. She has a thing for green eyes and tight cyclist’s butts and is a great believer in making up soundtracks for everything, including her characters and the cat.

Heat (Elements of Chemistry #3)

Genre: M/F, Contemporary Romance

Synopsis:

One week.

Manhattan apartment.

Super-hot ex-boyfriend.

What’s the worst that could happen?

It’s been nine months since Kaitlyn Parker has seen or heard from Martin Sandeke—nine months and five stages of matter. She’s lived through the worst of first-love heartbreak, and is most certainly stronger (and less likely to hide in science cabinets) than ever before.

But now Martin is back. And he wants to be friends. But he’s sending mixed signals to the Bunsen burner in Kaitlyn’s pants. Will Martin re-capture Kaitlyn’s heart? Can Kaitlyn and Martin ever be just friends? Or, despite an abundance of chemistry, are some bonds just too unstable to endure?

My Review: 4/5 Stars

Capture was a perfect ending to the series. Although I never thought they should have separated at the end of Heat.

After the split Kait has come into her own. She realized the path she was on wasn’t the one she wanted. She knows it has everything to do with her week spent with Martin. He opened her eyes to her true passion.

After sometime apart Martin comes back into her life. She’s hesitant at first, but soon caves to his wishes. She spends one week at his house and now she’s more confused than ever about where they stand.

Martin’s not done with her and he will do anything in his power to get her back.

I was upset with Kait. If she would have just read the interviews that Martin held, so much time would not passed. I was with Martin’s decision at the end of Heat, though I think their separation benefited both of them.

Kait because she followed her dreams and Martin because he needed to let go of the hate he had for his father. I don’t think they would have accomplished those things if they were still together.

I’m a little sad though because their journey is over.

I can’t wait to read more from Ms. Reid.

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).

By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.
