No More Regrets
Genre: M/F, Contemporary, Romance, Suspense
Don’t let yesterday’s regrets control your future.
Rocked by her husband’s infidelity and subsequent divorce, Emmy Bennett is doing her best to keep her children’s lives steady and not repeat the mistakes of her past. Selling her jewelry to pay the mortgage seems like a great idea until she finds herself face-to-face with a gun.
Retired Navy SEAL, Ed Jackson, is captivated by Emmy the first moment he sees her. Her nervous mannerisms get his attention, but when he saves Emmy from an attempted robbery, he discovers that maybe he’s pulled to her for reasons other than his curiosity.
Every pore of my body tingles as I feel Jackson move to me. My eyes stay focused on the faucet, but my body feels that he’s there behind me. I place my hands on the counter to brace myself. Jackson matches my movements and places his large, manly hands on top of mine as he brackets me against the counter, his arms touch mine from our shoulders down to our hands. His lips are so close to my skin. He whispers only a single word.
His breath travels over my ear. This one tickling breath causes a shiver to travel from my ear down to my toes. My stomach lurches. Just one word and my insides turn to mush.
“Why did you stay?”
My throat is so tight that the words are barely a whisper. Jackson leans his head down and gently kisses my bare shoulder next to the strap of my tank top. Is it possible for all the blood in my body to rush to my shoulder? That’s what it feels like as my head becomes light and my knees weak.
Jackson’s hands move to my shoulders. He slowly turns me around to face him. My hands find the countertop again to brace myself. Without the support, my dizziness would surely send me falling into his arms again. That wouldn’t be a bad thing, but I don’t want to be a fainting princess. His body is so close to mine, not touching me, but so close that I can feel his energy pulling me to him.
He cups my chin and tilts it up towards his so that our eyes connect.
“Do you want me to leave?” His blue eyes darken.
My Review: 4/5 Stars
The three days that Emmy and Jackson know each other are one heck of a rollercoaster.
After the divorce, Emmy is struggling and she needs to sell her jewelry so that she can make ends meet. What she doesn’t expect is to be held at gun point, then rescued by Jackson.
Jackson is a retired Navy Seal (swoon) and he notices that everything is not on the up and up with Emmy. So he steps in to help, which turns into a really fast romance. I mean fast, though Emmy has her reservations about it.
Now the whole time I’m reading this, I have suspects in my head and the one who actually did it didn’t come into thought until a little bit before they were revealed.
This was an excellent read, it tells the story of a woman who was wronged by her husband, but she didn’t let it break her. I really hope this turns into a series.
I live outside Washington, D.C. with my wonderfully supportive husband and two daughters, one of which is approaching her teenage years. Help us all! If that isn’t enough, we have a Great Dane and an English Bulldog to keep us on our toes. It’s crazy around here and I love every minute of it!
Writing is my third career. I didn’t set out to be a writer, it was just meant to be. My Mechanical Engineering degree from Virginia Tech prepared me well for my first career as an Engineer/Program Manager. My second career was in Human Resources. Long story, but I figured it out. I believe the best start for a writing career is to be a reader first and I’ve been an avid reader my whole life. I’ve loved to read ever since I picked up my first Nancy Drew mystery in the fourth grade. Now I love reading just about everything, but I don’t read sad books and I don’t watch sad movies either for that matter, no matter how many awards they’ve won. Life’s too short and who needs all that strife to bring us down?
Many of my words have been penned late into the evening, which explains why I’ve never viewed whatever television show you recommend to me. I would, however, love to hear your recommendations for a great read!
